Self-rescue skills for outdoor climbing
Are you worried about what might go wrong on a climb and want the confidence to deal with a variety of situations? Ever found yourself in a pickle and weren’t sure how to get out of it? Then our self-rescue skills courses are for you!

What you will learn
- How to avoid getting into a tangle in the first place!
- Identifying your options if things go wrong
- Core skills, e.g. tying off a belay plate
- Lowering techniques
- Simple hoisting methods
- Escaping the system
- Ascending a rope
- Contacting emergency services
This is a one full day session covering the above topics in a well defined syllabus. It is suitable for those with no previous knowledge of self-rescue skills or techniques. If you want something a bit different, based on your existing knowledge and what you want to learn, why not check out our bespoke climbing days and we can tailor a session to suit your needs.
Pre-requisities
You should already have a basic understanding of outdoor trad climbing, placing gear, belaying and setting up an anchor. However you don’t need to be a hard climber – leading or seconding up to VDiff is sufficient.
Location
The days will be based in Cumbria – exact location to be determined based on the weather and where participants are coming from.
Course size
Minimum 2 people for each course to run. Maximum 4 people per course.
